Summer is here along with vacations and trips of all sorts. We know you would prefer to bring your furry family members with you, but sometimes the fur kids have to stay behind. Here at Pinion Veterinary Hospital, we cannot recommend any particular boarding facility. There are too many variables to consider whether it be budget, location, special needs, daily playgroups, or grooming available, we recommend to do some basic research when looking for a boarding facility. Here are some tips and questions to ask during your search.
1. Keep in mind, due to HIPPA regulations, we cannot give out any medical information without having your permission. Please let us know ahead of time if a facility will be calling us for your pet's vaccine history.
2. Ask to tour the facility. Look for cleanliness, other pets' behavior, knowledgeable staff, living quarters, group areas. Does someone live on-site? Are there web cameras you can check in on any time?
3. Do you want grooming done before you pick up? Ask if grooming is available.
4. What vaccines and medical requirements are needed?
5. Have a social butterfly? Ask if playgroups/daycare is available.
6. Special needs? Finding a local veterinarian who offers boarding may be a better fit.
7. Ask your friends, family, and neighbors who they recommend.
8. Anxiety? Maybe an in-home pet sitter would be best. If you choose to hire a pet sitter, make sure you fill our a caretaker form in case of any emergencies. Print a caretaker form here.
